Memoirs of a Geisha

2005 · Cafe FX · DFX Supervisor

I served as DFX Supervisor at Café FX on Memoirs of a Geisha, supervising a body of largely invisible visual effects for the film. Several of the shots I supervised appeared in the official trailer, including the opening image of Sayuri standing on a barren hilltop, an environment transformed by VFX from what was, on location, an ordinary public park. Much of the work was of this kind: seamless, photoreal enhancements that support the story without ever reading as effects. The film won three Academy Awards, including Best Cinematography.
