Motel 6 and The Richards Group joined forces with K&C to create an iconic :30 spot that celebrates the brand’s 50th anniversary. The idea was simple: Send a family on a classic road trip spanning 50 years. This required a post savvy director, slick edits, photo real CG, a deft blend of VFX, and old/new school camera trickery so the focus of the audience’s enjoyment is on the world changing, not the actual changes themselves. K&C met the challenge finishing the entire project in house bringing to life a road trip down memory lane.

King and Country
VFX Supervisor
“For this spot we used a combination of live action cars and CG cars to create the effect that we are progressing through the decades. I was the Visual Effects Supervisor as well as the On Set Supervisor for this shoot. I supervised the Pre-Viz animation that was used extensively on set. Back at the studio I supervised and helped out with the modeling of the vehicles as well as the breaking up and rigging of the hundreds of animated pieces. I did nearly all of the shader work for the vehicles and much of the lighting. Many of the shots were match moved by myself and I was also the animator on may of the car transformation shots. This spot was completed by a fairly small group of artists but it looks like one done by a much larger team.”
